MUSIC ADVICE - How To Get Your Music on iTunes

I recently took to YouTube to upload my latest blog! This time around I wanted to talk about getting your music out on iTunes.  I've been working very hard to make these moves over the years.  No one gave me all the answers so I hope I can provide you with some help.

Should Artists Give Away Free Music?

I struggle with this all the time and debate the what if's.  In the majority sense I used to say yes. Now I don't feel that way.

Don't Seek Fame, Seek Fantastic.

I spend a lot of time making new material.  The problem is in the past I've always been in a rush.  Being in a rush comes from being not where I want to be in pop culture.  And not having those many fans means it's a struggle to get where I want to be.  Everything is full circle.

None is going to tell you this, some people mention it, but the key to success is continuous hard work.  Coupled with hard work you have to continuously evaluate yourself and improve on your weaknesses.  We all have them.  If you are painting, making music, or becoming a doctor; you have to get better.  Getting better means being willing to work 10x's harder than the competition to condition yourself.

Lastly, you have to be a curator.  That means you have to be in charge and manage every little detail.  If you don't care about your product...the people won't.  If they don't care then you will never reach your goals of success.  

Any regular person can make a sub-par product and get it produced.  It takes a very special person to meticulously edit, sweat over, & arrange every detail.  At the end of the day... that person's work does not go unnoticed because if you place their work side by side with the average...it shines more.  

So don't fall for the hype.  work on being the best you that you can be. Then you'll start to see people lining up to see you.  - wordplay.

Now I get a lot of questions about How to get followers...and my simple answer is usually BE YOURSELF! But that's not always the solution to everyone.  So I wanted to go somewhere and grab an answer from someone I respect.

You Don't Need Major Radio...so Fuck em

Why do we spend all of our time on a dying media format? I can understand that the entire country is brainwashed to think that in order to be successful in 2013 you still need major radio play. That's not true! Before we knew "All Gold Everything" we saw the video first. Time and time again radio gets kicked in the nuts because they won't learn that we want variety.

Music Advice: How to SHARE your music

I've recently gotten burnt out on promoting my music so much... Simply because

1. Noone cares to be sold
2. I'm sick of doing it and being so robotic
3. It doesn't help my music career.

You can learn how to write a hit record!

Every artist including myself is like...How do I get that Hit??? Well the folks over at Music Clout have blogged some simple tips you can try to get started.

"We have all heard those hit songs that can be considered  ‘timeless classics’.

Whether it’s a hip hop track, a rock classic or an 80’s power ballad, these songs share some essential features that ensure they will be on the airwaves for years to come. Obviously there is not one hard and fast rule for this as every song is different, but here is a list of features that many of these hit records share.

A ‘catchy’ song
Starting with the obvious, a hit record must be a great song. Above all the melody must be strong, as this is what a listener focuses on and this should be accompanied by some great lyrics and a good groove. You can apply the best production techniques possible, but if the song is weak then the record will sink without a trace!
A strong vocal
Having a great vocal is a real asset to any record. If you have a quality song and you have a strong vocalist to sing the melody, then this can be the golden ticket to creating a hit record. A great vocal does not necessarily need to be technically proficient, but more to do with how a singer can successfully interpret the emotion in the song i.e. how they can convey the message in the lyrics..."

Deez Limits can't hold me back! 15 Reasons Why You Fail

Oood ol Serena...I swear when times are rough I can count on her to kick me in my ass.  I spoke to her yesterday about reasons why I wasn't getting up and out there...and truthfully there are things I can delete from my life and improve...so I've done that.

So what about you?  Do you have a plan to make it big and can't for some reason.  Well, here are a few reasons why you suck...and other people don't.

1. Work Ethic: Many artists are unwilling to do the behind the scenes work that successful artists do relentlessly. They may be waiting to be discovered. Successful artists know that you have to create your own success. They take care of business, and are willing to do whatever it takes to reach their goals.
2. Lack of Knowledge: Many artists are willing to do the work but don’t know what to do. Many don’t know where to start or are afraid that they will do things wrong so they don’t do anything. This includes marketing, performing, songwriting, legal issues, recording and other important facets of their careers. Successful artists do their homework and tap into experts help to guide them. They study the ins and outs of the industry. They learn to make wise decisions. Most find a mentor(s) or coach who will guide them.
3. Ineffective Efforts: Many artists think they are doing the right things, but for some reason they are not hitting the mark. Some of the reasons for this are that they are not doing enough, are doing the wrong things, are doing things wrong, are missing some of the pieces or do things in the wrong order. Also included in this list are the artists who do things for the wrong reasons. Many just throw everything against the wall to see what sticks. Successful artists know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, where to do it, and how to get the most from it. They plan their business out in detail, and then follow their plan religiously.
